Project Background:

In the fall of 2012, we received an equipment inquiry from Mr. Nasser from Saudi Arabia, whose good friend Mr. Khalid was preparing to build an industrial plant, and urgently needed a special specification overhead crane. The technical parameters are as follows:

Type of equipment: Low headroom single girder overhead crane

Rated load: 5 tons

Main girder span: 32.5 meters

Effective lifting height: 7 meters

Transportation Requirements: The whole machine needs to be adapted to a 40-foot standard container.

Project Challenge:

Lack of infrastructure information: The plant was still in the design stage, and it took three weeks for the subcontractor to provide accurate building data.

Optimization of structural safety: the long span imposed special requirements on the structural strength of the main beams.

Space utilization requirements: the maximum lifting stroke is required within the limited building height.

International transportation constraints: the dimensions of the entire machine had to meet international shipping regulations.

Technical Solution:

After in-depth communication with Mr. Khalid's team, our engineering team implemented a three-phase retrofit plan:

Phase I: Structural Enhancement Design

Innovative use of segmented main beam structure, breaking down the 32.5-meter main beam into three detachable modules.

Developed a flange + high strength bolt composite connection process to ensure that the load carrying capacity of the joints meets the standards.

Finite element analysis and optimization of the end girder joints to improve the overall structural stability.

Phase II: Lifting system upgrade

HD type low headroom electric hoist is selected, saving 30% vertical space compared with traditional models.

Customized extended wire rope drum ensures 7m effective lifting height.

Equipped with double-braking safety system, meeting the standard of high temperature environment in the Middle East.

Phase III: Transportation Adaptation Modification

Modular disassembly design realizes the transportation of the whole machine.

Strictly control the size of each component within the container limit.

Provide pre-assembly instruction manual to ensure quick on-site installation.

Project implementation results:

The customized equipment finally passed Saudi Arabia's industrial equipment safety certification, and its innovative modular design has accumulated valuable experience for subsequent overseas projects. It is particularly worth mentioning that the transportation solution succeeded in reducing the shipping cost by 40% and shortening the on-site installation period at the same time.
